FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a composite door and a uPVC door?
A composite door is built around an engineered core, typically a high density polyurethane foam layer within an LVL subframe, wrapped in a thick GRP skin. This construction makes it considerably more rigid and thermally efficient than a standard uPVC door, and the GRP skin gives it a more premium appearance, closely replicating the look of painted timber. The weight and feel of the door is strong, which is something many customers specifically ask for.
For installers, the key difference is the sales conversation. Composite doors tend to command a higher retail price, they are visually distinct from uPVC and they carry credentials that are increasingly specified on new build and housing association contracts. If a customer wants a higher margin front door with a premium finish, composite is the right recommendation.
